Mother’s Distress
(Words and Music by Paul van Dijk, arrangements by Eric Gracient)
The soil lurks in the water it’s been waiting for, for such a long time now
The child absorbs impressions and builds a world inside
Money’s flowing everywhere, and covers all the light
Friends may interfere, but disappoint somehow
Mothers are our saviours and really understand
Mary guides our lost souls to the promised land
She’s painting ice flowers on my window in this shivery night
She’s giving all she has; the coal hearth fire never dies
Our home cannot be taken because she cares and never lies
Whereas others seem so wrong, I know she’s always right
Mothers are our saviours and really understand
Mary guides our lost souls to the promised land
Did she care too much, did she give herself away
Was the load too much, and the price too high to pay
I feel the pain she suffered, did she notice I was aware
Is this the course of life, or the fate of those who care?
I know she’s hiding high up there when the sun breaks through the heavy clouds
She’s giving all the signs I need, and no god could ever give
They help me get further, to forgive as well as live
My head upwards, not drowning in the crowds
Mothers are our saviours and really understand
Mary guides our lost souls to the promised land

Quiet afternoon

Quiet Afternoon
(Words and Music by Eric Gracient & Paul van Dijk)
It was a quiet afternoon
Lazily lying in my chair
Radio played a mellow tune
There was no danger in the air
But then the changes came
The white birds all flew up
From then on nothing was the same
I was treated with round-up, with round-up
A quiet afternoon on which
So many flowers died
Did your heels always itch?
Why did you run and hide
And when the changes came
The white birds all flew up
From then on nothing was the same
After we broke up, we broke up
No more quite afternoons
My treasure is buried deep
Radio plays darker tunes
I am in a twilight sleep
And with the changes came
Nights lit by the bright moon
We have lost, it’s such a shame,
Our quiet afternoon,
Our quiet afternoon

Fight against the dragon

Fight Against the Dragon
(Words and Music by Eric Gracient)
Mother, mother, you put me on hold
You leave me standing alone and it’s so cold
I’m the damaged fruit of your bloody belly
Why do I feel best as something smelly?
Mother, mother, you put me on hold
So I fight against the dragon, just to show you who I am
And just when I thought I’d won the war, I saw a vulgar sham
Father, father, where are you hiding?
Fucked by the war, you thought you were nothing
I’m your damned son and I’m living in gaol
Why do people think I’m just a rag doll?
Father, father, where are you hiding?
So I fight against the dragon, just to show you who I am
And just when I thought I’d won the war, I saw a vulgar sham
Brothers and sisters, how do you feel?
You’re living like slaves, how can it be real?
I try to show the way, but you are deaf and blind
No need for hosts of light, the beast is in your mind
Brother and sisters, how do you feel?
So I fight against the dragon, just to show you who I am
And just when I thought I’d won the war, I saw a vulgar sham
So I fight against the dragon, just to show you who I am
And just when I thought I’d won the war, I saw a vulgar sham
A vulgar sham

Dumbo

Dumbo
(Words by Paul van Dijk, Music by Paul van Dijk & Eric Gracient)
They wanted me to show them the disk I bought
I didn’t like their attitude and I just said no
Then I saw their t-shirts of the mighty Status Quo
“On the level” was the disk I didn’t show
They could have been my friends
I shouldn’t have said no
I regret that forever
Oh I’m such a dumbo
He bothered me, I wanted to get rid of him
Go see your mother and get off my back
But mercy, I forgot last month she died
He broke down in tears, it’s such a drag
He could have been my friend
It will not happen though
I regret that forever
Oh my I am such a dumbo
I ran towards the man walking in front of me
Bold, a raincoat, well indeed that must be my dad,
I tapped him on the shoulder and he turned to see
It was a stranger, and I blushed furiously red
I hoped to see my dad
Though he passed years ago
I regret that forever
Oh I am such a dumbo

Tracing Memories
(Words by Paul van Dijk, Music by Paul van Dijk & Eric Gracient)
While the light creeps in
And voices wake the neighbourhood
My body says it’s loving time
But she says no to morning wood
The road that climbs the mountain
Is curving in the mist
I was following a straight track
Which to my surprise didn’t exist
I am tracing memories
You’re miles ahead
Old ways are history
The past is dead
The road that climbs the mountain
Is curving in the mist
I was following a straight track
Which to my surprise didn’t exist
I am tracing memories
You’re miles ahead
Old ways are history
The past is dead
Walking down this memory lane
Is a perfect waste of time
Travelling with the waves is fun
And this line is a rhyme
While the light creeps in
And voices wake the neighbourhood
I am tracing memories

The Colours You Create
(Words by Paul van Dijk, Music by Eric Gracient)
How did you do that, throwing sparks from your eyes?
That left me without a voice
How come the rain fell, out there in the dunes?
My umbrella had no choice
Immediate connection to the colours you create
Cut down by looks that kill
In your eyes those mysterious shades
Which dissolve the strongest will
How did you do that, taking me away?
From the peatlands and the clay
How did you do that, make red out of grey?
And want me to stay
Immediate connection to the colours you create
Dark and distant sea
The horses on the shoreline are all your eyes can see
From our shelter in the lee
How did you know, that I wanted to be the one?
Dreaming at your side
My dark queen has lit a fire that never goes out
And you light my darkest night
Immediate connection to the colours you create
Flopping fishes in the sand
The painting you created will always be yours
It shows my promised land

What a waste

What a waste
(Words and Music by Eric Gracient)
It was a shiny day
The first time I met you
A friend came on my way
He tried to shoot me through
He hurt me deeply
What a curious mate
And I lived so badly my merciful fate
Oohooh, so the fool towards the music played
Ooh, what a waste
Oohooh, so I thought I maybe take a taste
Ooh, what a waste
Woke up this morning
Saw you by my side
You were my right wing
So I could take a ride
Three steps forward
And three back of course
Finally I stood backward
With plenty of remorse
Oohooh, so I thought I maybe take a taste
Ooh, what a waste
Oohooh, so I thought I maybe take a taste
Ooh, what a waste

Rid of It
(Words by Paul van Dijk, Music by Eric Gracient & Paul van Dijk)
Outside it’s about the common things, while inside it feels wrong
The never-ending power game, instead of going strong
Close your laptop, save some power
Gain some power, save some power
Quit your chair, make an effort
Make an effort, face the world
Chase the devil, chase the gods
Find some new ones, chase the gods,
Fix your braincells, make an effort
Make an effort, face the stars, face the stars
Outside it’s about the common things, while inside it feels wrong
The never-ending power game, instead of going strong
Rock the Kasbah, clear the pipeline
Clear the pipeline, free your soul
Dust your broom, make an effort
Make an effort, break the chain
Chase the devil, chase the gods
Find some new ones, chase the gods,
Fix your braincells, make an effort
Make an effort, face the stars, face the stars
Break the chain
Break the chain
And use your brain

In Between Rivers
(Words by Paul van Dijk, Music by Eric Gracient and Paul van Dijk)
Ideas are floating ‘round my head, I am reaching out in vain
To trap them and work them out, it’s driving me insane
My feet are stuck in muddy clay, with rivers left and right
The water takes my thoughts away, while I remain here tied
In between rivers
Witnessing the flow
Time is passing faster now
Faster than I can go, faster than I can go
oh how I love the winter time, motionless and still
Frozen land, iced waterways, it’s such a thrill
I am terribly efficient now, because the days are short
But soon the melting water will flush away all thought
Back in between rivers
Witnessing the flow
Time is passing faster now
Faster than I can go, faster than I can go
The river is a song of youth, and land is ancient art
I am better off in the mountains now, making a new start
But the mountain water drains my thoughts towards
The land that owns my heart, the land that owns my heart
In between rivers
Witnessing the flow
Time is passing faster now
Faster than I can go, faster than I can go

Youngsters
(Words by Olivier Meyer, Music by Eric Gracient, Paul van Dijk & Olivier Meyer)
Look at your kids by the age of seven
Recklessness is their most precious gift
They’re only searching for heaven
Living the moment without drift
Hey do you realize you are nothing
When you silence your inner child
In your mind youngsters are sleeping
They are your only chance to stay wild, wild, wild
Look at your kids now they are teens
Flawlessly detecting our insincerities
It’s deeply anchored in their genes
Their love has no impurities
Hey do you realize you are nothing
When you silence your inner child
In your mind youngsters are sleeping
They are your only chance to stay wild, stay wild, wild
Your kids are already twenty two
Their passion can move a mountain
Whatever they undertake, they come through
We must follow them for certain
Hey do you realize you are nothing
When you silence your inner child
In your mind youngsters are sleeping
They are your only chance to stay wild, yes wild, wild

Cutting Edges
(Words by Paul van Dijk, Music by Paul van Dijk & Eric Gracient)
I am cutting edges so no one gets hurt
My well-being stands with theirs and yours
I have to give smiles, though my thoughts are blurred
I am cutting edges, and counting my scores
I am cutting edges so no one gets hurt
My funny remarks grey out my soul
I am saying you are right, while your point is absurd
I am cutting edges, but it’s taking its toll
And now the cutting is done, I am sharp as a knife
While nature comes closer, the truth appears
No hollow sounds, the end of my strife
Like love is growing, throughout the years
Cutting edges, cutting edges (2x)
While they’re cutting edges, I am looking for truth
And you are the one that brought me here
To this path with trees, flowers and youth
Which shows the footsteps of so many fears
And now the cutting is done, I am sharp as a knife
While nature comes closer, the truth appears
No hollow sounds, the end of my strife
Like love is growing, throughout the years
Cutting edges, cutting edges (4x)

Hello dark dark night

Hello Dark, Dark Night
(Words and Music by Paul van Dijk)
Green is my left hand
Grey is my soul
Blue is where I am wandering
And red is my goal
And when the evening falls and the curtains are closed
The invading dark, dark night is what I fear the most
There is no way out
This sinkhole retains all
The roads all end up in my brain
And no one hears my call
Each time the evening falls and the curtains are closed
The invading dark, dark night is what I fear the most
Thoughts and sounds repeating, ringing in my head
Talk to me to chase them, paint our room in red
Fill my nights with laughter, literature and light
You’re the only one that can ever help me win this fight
I’m looking at you
And don’t understand
Whatever made me worry
While you hold my hand
But when the evening falls and the curtains are closed
The invading dark, dark night is what I fear the most

The Golden Cradle Judge
(Words and Music by Eric Gracient)
Last night I dreamt of the angry sea
I saw a mountain in front of me
I was sailing on a black nutshell
Hearing a bell tolling the death knell
There is something disturbing
Maybe my sleep, wandering
In paranoia’s dark limbo
Please, open wide the window
Caffeine, Codeine, Nicotine
Could surely solve part of the problem
Pointing dark ideas in a bright bright green
Much better than hitting the bottom
Since I spend my days making smoke rings
Mop up, go crazy and just puffing
Count for nothing for all crowded heads
Slowly sinking in a bloody bed
So the golden cradle judge pronounced the sentence
Not essential without any grudge or violence

A Great Story
(Words by Eric Gracient, Music by Paul van Dijk)
Overwhelmed and blown
Your face passes in front of my eyes
Standing on my own
A place to hide to run away from lies
If only I could wear a nice disguise
To show you what’s hidden behind the shell
If only I could share the way I take to reach the skies
It could have been a great story to tell
Becoming disturbed
I hardly have any more tears or fears
Troubled and perturbed
I’ve been looking for a path for years
If only I could wear a nice disguise
To show you what’s hidden behind the shell
If only I could share the way I take to reach the skies
It could have been a great story to tell
